Saber Interactive today announced a new VR project: Exploding Kittens VR, a virtual reality adaptation of the popular card game. The VR version brings the kittens up close and personal and can be played by up to five players online or alone against bots. It launches in fall this year, and is available to pre-order on Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 2.

Exploding Kittens VR features a few additions to the card game, including VR-exclusive mini-games and character customization within the social hub, three game modes — classic, blitz and duel — and several tools to defeat and outwit your opponents. One tool is the ability to defuse the Exploding Kitten. This isn’t the first video game adaptation of the card game, as a mobile version is available on iOS, Android and Switch and through the Netflix gaming platform.

This is another of multiple projects in development at Saber. The company’s other upcoming releases include Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 (which launches on September 9), Jurassic Park Survival, John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando and the remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

Saber is publishing Exploding Kittens under license from Asmodee Entertainment, which is one of the three companies that split off from the Embracer Group earlier this year. Under the new paradigm, Asmodee oversees the tabletop and board game IPs owned by Embracer, including Catan, 7 Wonders and Ticket to Ride. Additionally, Saber also split from Embracer this year when it was sold to Saber founder Matthew Karch’s Beacon Interactive.
